People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions.

Freedom House For Women, 1101 Seventh Ave., Akron, OH 44306, provides homeless prevention services to individuals and single-parent families who are challenged with eviction from Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority. It is seeking sponsors to provide holiday food baskets or gifts for families or individuals.

Akron Bible Church Baskets of Love, 783 Brown St., Akron, OH 44311, is a year-round emergency food pantry with a Christmas outreach that will distribute food baskets and toys to 100 families this year. It is seeking the following:
• Donations of money, turkeys and gift cards for teens and pre-teens, as well as refrigerators and freezers for the food pantry. Donations may be dropped off at the church between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays. Donors may also call 330-319-1922 to request pickup or arrange a more convenient drop-off time.
• Volunteers to help pack and deliver food baskets and toys the second and third weeks of December.
• Volunteers to help serve hot lunches to the needy from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at Hope Cafe, 335 E. South St., Akron.
• Donations of paper products, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, aluminum pans, napkins, plastic cutlery, pans, kitchen implements, liquid dish soap, kitchen towels, oven mitts, sugar, flour and spices for the hot lunch program. Donations may be dropped off at the church between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays.
