The North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University Choir will perform at 6:30 p.m. April 13 at Wesley Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, 104 N. Prospect St., Akron.
The Greensboro, North Carolina, university choir’s repertoire includes classical, gospel, Negro spirituals, light jazz and African music.
Under the direction of Travis W. Alexander, the choir performed at the White House in 2011 and 2012 during Black History Month. Alexander, director of choral studies at North Carolina A&T, has also conducted concerts throughout Europe. As conductor of the 105 Voices of History HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) National Choir Concert, which takes place annually in Washington, D.C., Alexander traveled to various colleges throughout the nation to rehearse groups of singers.
The local concert is being presented by the Cleveland Chapter of the North Carolina A&T Alumni Association and the Wesley Temple.
