Got a knack for finding new uses for old stuff? You can pit your skills against other upcyclers in the Recycle, Repurpose, ReStore competition, sponsored by Habitat for Humanity of Portage County.

Even if you’re not creative, you can still be part of the fun. Observers and supporters can view the entries and vote for their favorites at a celebratory reception at 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Habitat ReStore, 1510 S. Water St., Kent.

Contest applications are available at the Kent ReStore and the Habitat affiliate office, 6630 Cleveland Road, Ravenna Township. The competition has categories for children and adults, with prizes in both.

Tickets to the cash-bar reception are $10 and are available at the Kent ReStore and the Habitat office in Ravenna Township. Guests will be entered into a drawing for a Night Out in Portage package, and prize baskets will be available in a chance auction.

Contestants will attend the reception for free.

For information, call 330-296-2880.

Photograph showcased

A photograph by Bath Township resident Sue Klein is on display at the United States Botanic Garden in Washington.

Klein’s work, High Desert Landscape, is part of the Garden Club of America show This Land Is Your Land, which showcases the beauty and diversity of plants in the United States. Hers is one of 30 photos in the juried show, open until Oct. 13 in the botanic garden’s East Gallery.

She is a member of the Akron Garden Club.

Quilt show entries

Entries are sought for the Streetsboro Quilt Guild’s annual quilt show Oct. 3 and 4 at First Baptist Church, Frost Road and state Route 43.

The show is judged, but entrants may choose to display quilts without having them judged.

Entry fee is $3 each for items submitted by Wednesday and $6 apiece for entries submitted later.

Entry forms are at http://streetsboroquiltguild.com. For more information, contact Sharon Kemp at 330-283-2697 or skemp@kent.edu.
