A statewide food drive for Ohioans struggling with hunger begins today and continues through Sept. 11.
The Feed Ohio 2014 initiative involves volunteers from faith and community groups who will go door-to-door in neighborhoods encouraging people to donate nonperishable food and personal care items. Donations can be collected by the volunteers or taken to drop-off points. Items collected will go directly to those in need in local communities via food banks and food charities.
In its second year, Feed Ohio is done in conjunction with the National Day of Service and Remembrance on Sept. 11. It is a collaborative effort of the Governor’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and faith-based and community groups. Among the local groups involved in Feed Ohio are Good Neighbors (an Akron-based charitable organization that provides food, clothing and household items to those in need) and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Needed items include peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti sauce, canned pasta, boxed potatoes, noodle side dishes, cake mixes, boxed dinner items (like hamburger, tuna and chicken helper), canned tuna and toiletries.
For a complete list, go to www.feedohio.org.
