The To-Do-List — week of Aug. 10

Celebrate Gay Games

The Gay Games proclaim that they are open “to all adults, regardless of sexual orientation or athletic ability,” but let’s not forget this is a time to celebrate our LGBT brothers and sisters and their accomplishments. Those include the sporting world, as will be evident at Gay Games 9 events — and you can observe with a festival of gay-related sports films.

You could start with Personal Best, the track drama starring Mariel Hemingway, which has its detractors but also makes some lists of the best gay movies. And Roger Ebert gave four stars when it was released in 1982. Then there are movies like Breaking the Surface: The Greg Louganis Story (with Mario Lopez as diver Louganis), tennis movie When Billie Beat Bobby (Holly Hunter as Billie Jean King, Ron Silver as Bobby Riggs) and hockey film Breakfast With Scot.

All have been released on DVD, as well as other formats. Personal Best, for example, is on iTunes and Amazon Instant Video, and When Billie Beat Bobby is on Netflix.

Medina craft festival

More than 120 artisans will be selling their work during An Affair on the Square, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today on Medina’s public square.

In addition to arts and crafts, the festival will offer food trucks and entertainment. Admission is free. Details are at www.medinacraftshows.com/affair.

Thrift shopping tips

Who doesn’t like saving money while staying in style? Two bloggers who specialize in using thrift-store finds to decorate a home and build a wardrobe will share their shopping strategies during a class from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Brunswick Goodwill store, 1733 Pearl Road.

Katie Plato, who writes the blog Something to be Found, and Dina Younis of Dina’s Days will help participants focus their thrift-store hunts and uncover hidden treasures.

Even the class is a bargain. It’s free.

No advance registration is necessary, but you can call 330-786-2519 if you have questions.

Prismatic Perry at the Q

Katy Perry is one of the top pop stars in the world right now, and she’s bringing her peppy anthems and her much-discussed and -photographed décolletage to Quicken Loans Arena on Thursday night.

Perry is still riding and touring high on her fourth album, Prism, and its string of hit singles including Roar and Dark Horse. Tickets for Perry’s audio/visual extravaganza are $29.50-$103.50; go to www.theqarena.com, call 888-894-9424 or visit any area Discount Drug Mart.
