The Revs. Ronald Fowler and Knute Larson to keynote annual Love Akron breakfast

The third annual Love Akron Network breakfast will feature the Revs. Ronald J. Fowler and Knute Larson as keynote speakers.

Larson and Fowler, both founding board members of Love Akron, are known throughout the Akron community for establishing an intentional bridge–building relationship across racial and denominational lines. Larson and Fowler retired in 2009 as senior pastors of The Chapel and Arlington Church of God, respectively.

Each year, Love Akron, a coalition of Christian clergy and leaders, presents a Fowler-Larson Allies Award during its annual breakfast to recognize partnerships and relationships that model unity akin to the bond formed by Larson and Fowler.

This year’s Allies Award recipients are Dottie Achmoody, CEO of Open M and Perry Clark, president and founder of Truly Reaching You Ministries. Clark and Achmoody have developed a friendship across gender and racial lines and work together to better the lives of people living in south Akron and people affected by substance abuse and mental health disorders in Summit County.

The second award presented during the breakfast is the Unruh Servant Award, named in honor of the late Judge Brenda Burnham Unruh. The award recognizes a Christian who exhibits integrity and good moral character and who voluntarily provides service to the community. This year’s Unruh award recipient is 9th District Court of Appeals Judge Carla Moore, who volunteers on several local boards and mentors young women, including former offenders and addicts.

The breakfast will be Sept. 30 at the John S. Knight Center, 77 E. Mill St., Akron. Doors will open at 6:30 a.m. The hourlong program will begin at 7 a.m. Tickets are $50. To make a reservation, go to www.LoveAkron.org or call 330-384-8124.
