Barter of Seville

Bargain hunters, get ready. What’s billed as the world’s largest yard sale is coming this week in Seville.

On Friday and Saturday, thousands of shoppers are expected to converge on the Medina County village to shop the sales scattered around town. There are no set hours, but some sales start early and most are open by 9 a.m. The majority end by midafternoon Saturday.

The Police Department has compiled parking information, safety tips and other helpful pointers at https://sites.google.com/site/2014sevilleyardsale.

‘Fever’ reliever

Saturday Night Fever, the disco epic that made a star of John Travolta, will be shown in select Cinemark and Regal cinemas at 2 p.m. Sunday and 2 and 7 p.m. Wednesday. Participants include Cinemark Valley View and North Canton’s Tinseltown USA, and Regal Crocker Park.

Be aware that this is the original, R-rated cut of the movie, with strong language and content. (As it became a hit, a PG cut was released to bring in younger audiences.) The story, for those of you tuning in late, involves working-class Tony Manero (Travolta), who finds joy dancing with friends on weekends — only to wonder if there’s more to life after he meets another dancer (Karen Lynn Gorney). The music is most famously by the Bee Gees, but with help from Tavares, Yvonne Elliman, K.C. & the Sunshine Band, the Trammps and others.

Maher at Rocksino

Bill Maher is a comedian, political commentator, author, television host and frequently talking head. In September, the hard-talking Maher will tape two specials for HBO in Washington, D.C. The first is an episode of his talk show Real Time, after which he will immediately perform a live standup at a venue five blocks away.

Catch a preview of the stand-up at 8 tonight when Maher appears at the Hard Rock Rocksino, 10777 Northfield Road, Northfield.

Tickets are $49.50-$99.50 at www.ticketmaster.com; the show is for ages 21 and over.

Hudson homes, gardens

Since 1947, Hudson residents have been inviting people into their homes to raise money for worthy projects. This year, five homes and three gardens will be open during the Hudson Home & Garden Tour, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

The tour is sponsored by the Hudson Garden Club, which uses the money for scholarships, grants, tree purchases, community gardens and gardening books for the Hudson Library and school libraries.

Tickets are $20 in advance at Acme Fresh Market and Learned Owl Bookstore, both in Hudson. On tour days, tickets may be purchased for $25 at the Garden Shop at Hudson Middle School or the ticket tent on the Hudson Green near Routes 91 and 303.

Mausoleum tour

Stroll slowly through the wooded Massillon Cemetery among beautiful monuments and mausoleums at 2 p.m. today and learn about its history. Walkers will see two-dozen mausoleums (exteriors only) for inventors, industrialists, philanthropists and political leaders.

Meet at the cemetery entrance, 1827 Erie St. S. Cemetery parking is limited, but ample free parking is available on South Erie Street.

Reservations are not necessary; the $7 fee may be paid at the beginning of the tour.

In case of inclement weather, the tour will be canceled.
