Drive to ‘Miss Daisy’
Angela Lansbury and James Earl Jones star in a big-screen presentation of the original play Driving Miss Daisy, recorded during the production’s Australian tour. Alfred Uhry’s play about a Southern Jewish woman and her African-American chauffeur won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for drama. The movie version won four Oscars for best picture, adapted screenplay, best actress (Jessica Tandy) and makeup.
The Jones-Lansbury production will be in several local theaters in the days ahead. Cinemark Macedonia and Valley View, and Tinseltown USA in Jackson Township, have it at 2 and 7 p.m. Wednesday and 7 p.m. June 10. Cleveland’s Cedar Lee and Chagrin Cinemas will show it at 7 p.m. Wednesday, 11 a.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. June 10.
Little Fish swimming
Cleveland independent record label Little Fish Records will celebrate its 20th year as an outlet for area talent with a showcase concert Saturday at the Players Club at Lost Nation Sports Park, 38630 Jet Center Place, Willoughby.
The concert from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. will feature several of the artists on the label roster, including Cleveland reggae king Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S. Band, soul/rock/pop band Winslow, DenZon and the Blues All-Stars, and singer/songwriter Robin Stone and the Ark Band. There will also be food and craft vendors.

A portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping music alive in schools by donating musical instruments to underfunded music programs.

Smell the roses
Enjoy hundreds of types of heirloom roses in bloom during Saturday’s Rose Garden Open House at the Garden of Roses of Legend & Romance on the campus of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center near Wooster.
The event will include a pruning demonstration and tours of the 2.7-acre garden, led by rose experts. A limited number of roses propagated from plants in the garden will be offered for sale.
The center is at 1680 Madison Ave. in Wooster Township. Hours for the open house are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Food trucks arrive
Food trucks will roll into the Tallmadge Recreation Center parking lot from noon to 6 p.m. today as the city holds its first Food Truck Festival.
The mobile kitchens will offer up a wide array of culinary delights. The Recreation Center is at 46 N. Munroe Road, off East Avenue, east of Tallmadge Circle.
Food trucks scheduled to gather are: Zydeco Bistro, Boca Loca Burrito Factory, Nosh Box, Stone Pelican Cafe, Beachcomber, Sweet! Mobile Cupcakery, Popsmith, Mobile Sushi Bar and East Coast Original Frozen Custard. The event will also include a performance by the Swizzle Stick Band and activities for kids.
The food truck rally is organized by the Recreation Center and Tallmadge Chamber of Commerce. The chamber will sell water and soda to raise money for charities.
