This film will go on

Titanic returns to select movie screens today and Wednesday.

The Kate Winslet-Leonardo DiCaprio epic, directed by James Cameron, remains the second-highest-grossing film of all time when not adjusted for inflation; Cameron’s Avatar is first. It also won 11 Oscars, including best picture; only two other films, Ben-Hur and The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King have matched that total.

Showings will be 2 p.m. today and 2 and 7 p.m. Wednesday in Cinemark Valley View, Cinemark Tinseltown in Jackson Township and Regal Crocker Park.

Day Out with Thomas

Take your aspiring little engineer on a ride with the classic storybook character Thomas the Tank Engine.

Since Thomas left the station 65 years ago, this Really Useful Engine and his Island of Sodor friends have chugged their way into the hearts of preschoolers and grown-ups.

Train rides are through Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The excitement begins on Saturday at Boston Mills Ski Resort, 7100 Riverview Road, Boston Township. Other days to hitch a ride are May 18, 23, 24 and 25. Train departures start at 9:30 a.m. and run every hour after that. The last ride is at 4:30 p.m.

All seats are coach and cost $18 or $22, depending on the day and time. For more information, call 800-468-4070. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketweb.com.

Go buggy

Learn to love insects — OK, at least learn to appreciate them — at The Secret Lives of Good Garden Bugs, a seminar from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center near Wooster.

The program will focus on the lives of tiny but beneficial garden inhabitants. Workshop participants will also be given the opportunity to get involved in two summer research projects, one that collects data on lady beetles and the other that encourages the creation of bee-friendly landscapes.

The seminar costs $40, including breakfast, lunch and materials. A registration form is at http://ladybeetles.osu.edu.

For more information, contact Chelsea Smith at smith.7231@osu.edu or 330-202-3555, ext. 2560.

Play that funky music

Do still you want the funk, the whole funk and nothing but the funk? Is your favorite brand of funk the P-Funk? If so, then head to the Beachland Ballroom (15711 Waterloo Road, Cleveland) at 8 p.m. Tuesday for a lesson from one of the masters, the Bernie Worrell Orchestra.

Worrell was one of the most important members of George Clinton’s Parliament/Funkadelic circle of musicians, performers and weirdos and he played on nearly all of the group’s most popular records including the famous synthbass line to Flashlight. Worrell also toured with the Talking Heads and the Pretenders, and has recorded or performed with Yoko Ono, Keith Richards, Sly & Robbie, Public Image Ltd. and so many more.

Tickets are $10-$15 at 216-383-1124 or www.beachlandballroom.com.
