Help for old structures
The Building Doctors will be making rounds in Peninsula this week.
The “doctors,” two building-preservation experts from the Ohio Historic Preservation Office, will lead a clinic for owners of old buildings from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the GAR Hall, 1785 Main St. The next day, they’ll make house calls from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to a limited number of pre-1955 buildings within five miles of Peninsula to diagnose technical or design problems and prescribe treatments.

Alabama Shakes
The Hard Rock Rocksino at Northfield — which so far has focused on booking classic rockers from the ’70s and ’80s, and a smattering of old school R&B and country artists — will get both hip and happenin’ on Thursday with a concert by much buzzed about indie rock band the Alabama Shakes.
The Alabama-based band’s 2012 debut album, the blues-and roots infused Boys & Girls reached Gold status and was nominated for three Grammys. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-653-8000.
Spacey jam
NOW: In the Wings on a World Stage, a 90-minute film about Kevin Spacey’s world tour in a production of Shakespeare’s Richard III, will get a one-night-only showing in the Cedar Lee at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday .
Sam Mendes, who also directed Spacey in the Oscar-winning American Beauty, directed Spacey in Richard. The film promises “some of the most intimate moments behind the scenes of their staging … their story and experiences weave around, and reflect on, excerpts from the play from their various locations.”
Spacey has a long history with the tragedy; he was part of a production starring Al Pacino as Richard, and can be seen in the Pacino-directed 1997 documentary Looking for Richard.
