Q: Last fall, an exterminator sprayed the exterior of my house with a pesticide, using a high-pressure power spray. I now have white residue and drips that seem to have come from the pesticide dissolving some of the white paint on my old wood siding, which is underneath the current vinyl siding. Can you direct me to someone who could help explain the situation? My exterminator has accepted responsibility for the residue but not the paint drips.

A: The Ohio Department of Agriculture’s pesticide division requires licensed pesticide applicators in the state to keep a detailed record on each application, including what was applied and under what conditions. The division will also investigate complaints against licensed applicators and provide a report on its findings, said Tim Hoffman, a pesticide and fertilizer supervisor with the division. The report could be useful if you need to pursue civil action against the applicator.
