A.: Many older recipes have measurements that are difficult to decipher. As far as can sizes go, however, there is a resource that has the answers, the Can Manufacturer’s Institute in Washington.
This information comes from Sherrie Rosenblatt, who is vice president for marketing and communications for the institute: a No. 2 can is 20.55 ounces, which is equal to 2½ cups. A No. 3 can is 33.5 fluid ounces, equal to 4¼ cups.
