The 15th annual Epiphany Arts Festival begins today at Bath United Church of Christ, 3980 W. Bath Road, Bath Township.
The free nonjuried show features a variety of art forms from more than 200 regional artists. Items on display include paintings, sculptures, ceramics, glass, jewelry, calligraphy, photography and fiber arts.
The mission of the arts festival is to celebrate artists who offer insight and talent to the world and to promote respect for God’s creation. The exhibits are considered manifestations of God’s light and symbolic of the light of the stable star and the gifts of the Magi associated with Epiphany.
Epiphany, which extends for many Protestant traditions from Jan. 6 until Ash Wednesday, commemorates the revelation of Jesus as the Christ to the Gentiles. Other traditions, such as the Roman Catholic tradition, observe Epiphany as a single day. It is a time when the faithful focus on the mission of the church to the world in light of the Nativity.
The festival will open with a reception from 2 to 5 p.m., when artists will be available to meet and talk to about their work. It will remain open through Feb. 23 from noon to 3 p.m. Sundays, 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The arts festival will close with a musical program featuring the Bath Church’s vocal, brass and handbell choirs at 3 p.m. Feb. 23.
