CANTON: The Rev. Wayne Evans has been elected to serve as the 13th general superintendent of the Evangelical Friends Church Eastern Region, effective Jan. 1.
Evans, who will replace the Rev. John P. Williams Jr., is a member of Fulton Creek Evangelical Friends Church in Richwood, according to information released by the Eastern Region’s office in Canton.
The new superintendent completed training for ministry at Malone University, Ohio Christian University and Ashland Theological Seminary. He earned his doctorate of ministry at George Fox Evangelical Seminary in Portland.
He has served as a leader in the denomination’s ministries in Haiti and the Dominican Republic and as an adjunct professor at Malone University.
He and his wife, Regina, have also served congregations in Rollin, Mich.; Deerfield, Ohio; and Hanover, Va.
As general superintendent, Evans will be responsible for providing support to Malone University and the national and international affiliations of the Evangelical Friends Church International.
He is also charged with providing spiritual and organizational leadership to ministries in more than a dozen countries and more than 93 churches in southeastern Canada and the eastern part of the United States.
The Eastern Region of the Evangelical Friends Church includes churches in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
