Michael Trecaso, owner of Mary Coyle in Akron’s Highland Square, has been cooking up Italian favorites for decades in Akron. Now his son, chef Michael II, has joined his dad to continue the Trecaso tradition.
Michael says: When I asked my two sisters, one of my brothers and two of my cousins about a family favorite Christmas cookie, I received the same recipe. This bakes 18 dozen — just enough to fill the small space in an Italian’s stomach after a huge Christmas dinner. The cookies were eaten after dinner while playing cards — adults in the dining room, children in the kitchen. (Editor’s note: We’ve cut the recipe down to 6 dozen.)
