People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions.

A link to a form for submitting requests to People Helping People can be found at www.ohio.com/charity, along with tips on researching charities and a list of causes already published.

Questions about submitting information? Call Mary Beth Breckenridge, 330-996-3756.

Ellet Girl Scout Troop 1410 and Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, 1 Girl Scout Way, Macedonia, OH 44056, are collecting shoeboxes filled with small gifts for their 14th annual Christmas Shoe-Box Campaign.

Donors should fill a shoebox with such articles as hygiene items, socks, hats, gloves and small gifts for children and adults at area homeless shelters. The greatest need is for items for women, men and teenage boys.

A detailed list of needed items is available at 330-760-2142 or www.akrongirlscouts.org.

Wrap the lid and box separately for security reasons, write the appropriate age and gender of the recipient on a tag and attach the tag to the top of the box.

Boxes may be dropped off from noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 7, 14 or 21 at New Horizons Christian Church, 290 Darrow Road, Akron.

For more information, contact April Wortman at 330-760-2142 or Dentalmom6@yahoo.com.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ohio Buckeye Chapter, 6155 Rockside Road, Suite 202, Independence, OH 44131, provides research, information and services to help people with multiple sclerosis and their caregivers as well as medical professionals.

It is seeking donations of money and Acme grocery receipts that give to the Acme Community Cash Back Program. Checks and receipts may be mailed. Donations also can be made online at www.MSohiobuckeye.org.

In addition, volunteers are needed to make one-time holiday visits to individuals with MS who are socially isolated or who live in skilled nursing facilities. To volunteer, call the United Way Volunteer Center, 330-643-5512.

The organization needs volunteers in other areas as well. Information can be obtained from Greg Kovach at 216-503-4166 or greg.kovach@nmss.org.
