People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Western Reserve, 889 Jonathan Ave., Akron, OH 44306, is a youth development organization providing after-school and summer-break programming to school-age, primarily at-risk kids in Greater Akron. It is seeking the following:
• Volunteers for its Holiday For Kids Event on Dec. 7.
• Volunteers and runners for its iBelieve 5K/10K/1 Mile Youth Inspire Run on Dec. 21.
• Volunteers to provide day-to-day help between 2:30 and 7 p.m. weekdays.
• Donations of money to support the organization’s holiday events and ongoing operations, as well as silent-auction items for its signature event, Aspire!, on March 15. Donations can be dropped off.

Hattie Larlham is a nonprofit organization that provides medical, residential, recreational and vocational services to improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities. It is seeking small groups of volunteers to plan and host parties or outings for group homes housing four adults with developmental disabilities. Parties can be for birthdays, holidays or seasons.
Volunteers would plan the party; secure all needed supplies, snacks or activities; decorate or set up for the party; help the individuals engage in the party activities; and clean up. Evenings and weekends are the best times for resident parties.
