People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions.

A link to a form for submitting requests to People Helping People can be found at www.ohio.com/charity, along with tips on researching charities and a list of causes already published.

Questions about submitting information? Call Mary Beth Breckenridge, 330-996-3756.

Summit County Children Services, 264 S. Arlington St., Akron, OH 44306, is seeking the following:

• Donations of new toys and gifts for its Holiday Toy Room, where caregivers select gifts for the children in their care. Items for teens and infants are especially needed. Donations must be made before Nov. 30.

• Donors to “adopt” a child for the holidays by providing three gifts. Donors receive a wish list of reasonably priced items. Wrapped gifts must be delivered to the agency by Dec. 6.

For information on either opportunity, call the United Way Volunteer Center, 330-643-5512.

Project GRAD Akron, 65 Steiner Ave., Akron, OH 44301, is seeking volunteers to help with its Snacks and Educational Fun with Santa event Dec. 7. Volunteers will assist with educational activity stations, help children make holiday crafts, play games, read holiday stories and assist with setup or cleanup.

Groups that wish to sponsor an activity or game are also welcome. Ideas include cookie decorating and writing holiday cards to military personnel.

Call the United Way Volunteer Center, 330-643-5512.

Home Instead Senior Care, 1 Park Center Drive, Wadsworth, OH 44281, is collecting gifts for lonely seniors through its Be A Santa to a Senior program. To participate, take a tag with a senior’s name from one of the trees that will be displayed until Dec. 10 at stores throughout the area. Buy a gift for that person and return it to the store where you got the tag, either unwrapped or in a gift bag.

You can find a participating store near you at www.beasantatoasenior.com.
