People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions.

ACCESS Inc., 230 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44303-1007, provides a supportive environment for homeless mothers and their children and offers housing, advocacy and empowerment programs to help clients develop self-esteem and become self-sufficient.
It is seeking the following:
• Donors to “adopt” families for Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Thanksgiving donors should plan to spend at least $75 per family and provide turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn and pumpkin pie. Items for Thanksgiving should be dropped off at ACCESS between 2 and 6 p.m. Monday.
Christmas donors should plan to spend about $50 on gifts for each member of the adopted family. Unwrapped gifts should be dropped off at ACCESS on Dec. 3.
• Volunteers to wrap gifts for current and former clients at the shelter’s Annual Wrap Party on Dec. 11.

Akron Urban League is seeking monetary donations to fund its 22 programs and services. Donations may be sent to: Akron Urban League, 440 Vernon Odom Blvd., Akron, OH 44307, Attention: Fred Wright, president/CEO.
In addition, the organization needs volunteers to help with its Dining with Santa event from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14. Volunteers will assist with pictures with Santa, a meal, activities and gift giveaways and cleanup.
