People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions.

Cuyahoga Valley Preservation and Scenic Railway Association, 2325 Stine Road, Boston Township, is seeking volunteers for its Polar Express train rides through the Cuyahoga Valley. Roles include Santa, Mrs. Claus, elf readers, assistants, servers and many North Pole characters.

Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, 714 N. Portage Path, Akron, is seeking volunteers for these tasks during its Deck the Hall holiday celebration:
• Gingerbread cookie helper, assisting in the cookie house with baking cookies and making hot cider.
• Manor House monitors, monitoring traffic flow through the Manor House and protecting the museum’s collection as guests are touring the house.
• Molly’s Café volunteer, assisting the café staff with food, hot chocolate and cleanup.
• Molly’s Shop assistant, helping the store staff with merchandise and wrapping purchases.
• Salty Reindeer helper, assisting in the Salty Reindeer house with sales of beer, wine, pretzels and popcorn.

Victim Assistance Program Inc. and Safety Forces Chaplaincy Center, 150 Furnace St., Akron, OH 44304, are seeking donors to sponsor families through their Gifts of Hope Program. Donors will provide a holiday meal and gifts for client families. The donors will not able to meet the families or deliver items to them.
