Wine of the week: Miraval Provence Rosé

We can’t be Brangelina, but we can drink their wine.

Their Miraval Provence Rosé, about $25, is no celebrity stunt. In fact, it is one of the loveliest roses we’ve tasted in some time. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt bought Chateau Miraval as their summer home and make wine from its estate’s grapes with the assistance of the Perrin family, one of France’s best-regarded winemaking clans.

This elegant pale pink wine charms from first sniff, with a delicate bouquet of apricots and roses. Heavenly. Heaven follows through on the tongue with lush but delicate fruit — apricot, raspberry, a little lime and a hint of strawberry — in a nicely structured, mouth-filling wine that finishes amazingly clean and light with just the suggestion of flint at the end. Gorgeous!

Bouillabaisse, the iconic Provencal fish stew, is rosé’s classic partner at the table, and that was the pairing we enjoyed as we tasted this one. As divine as that combination is, the wine also would pair more than agreeably with an herb and goat cheese omelet or a good Cuban sandwich.
