Help on health-care reform

Here are a few places to get more information about the Affordable Care Act’s requirements for individuals and the new marketplace plans that will be available with potential federal subsidies:

• The federal government is offering information at www.healthcare.gov or by calling the federal Health Insurance Marketplace at 800-318-2596. Starting Oct. 1, people and small businesses can use the website to shop for plans and apply for subsidies.

• The nonprofit Kaiser Family Foundation has a comprehensive website about health-care reform at www.kff.org/health-reform. The site includes a calculator to help consumers estimate subsidies they could earn to help offset the cost of coverage.

• AxessPointe Community Health Center has received a federal grant to help people find insurance coverage and apply for federal subsidies. Call 888-975-9188 for more information.

• A coalition of community groups led by the Ohio Association of Foodbanks is receiving a nearly $2 million navigator grant from the federal government to help people statewide with the marketplace open enrollment. Call 800-648-1176 for information.

• The Internal Revenue Service provides information about the requirement to get health insurance in 2014 on its website, www.irs.gov. Select the “Affordable Care Act Tax Provisions” link.
