Musical insects
Late summer evenings are the perfect time to listen to the earth’s musicians in concert — crickets and katydids.
Cleveland Institute of Music faculty member Dr. Lisa Rainsong will help you learn who, or what, is singing and how to find them. This event includes an indoor presentation and a hike through the outdoor “concert hall.”
Bring a flashlight and gather at 7 p.m. Friday at the F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm’s visitor’s center, 1828 Smith Road, Akron.
Head to a round-up
Local food truck operators are heading to Medina for their first round-up there on Wednesday.
A group of local trucks will be selling their gourmet street food from 4 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot of Sushi On the Roll, 985 Boardman Alley, Medina.
Between 10 and 12 trucks are expected to participate.
All tips from the event will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Building Blocks Adoption Agency. Visit www.foodtrucksin.com/events/city- medina-food-truck-round for more information.
Ohio-centric festival
Combine a shopping trip with a visit to Hale Farm & Village during the Made in Ohio Art & Craft Festival on Saturday.
More than 100 vendors will be selling arts, crafts and foods produced in Ohio. Your $5 admission fee gets you into the living history museum, too. That’s half off the regular adult admission price.
The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hale Farm & Village, 2686 Oak Hill Road, Bath Township.
Bridge construction is detouring traffic near Hale Farm, so your GPS may not get you there. Check http://tinyurl.com/HaleDirections for the best routes to follow.
Get ‘Pulped’
Cinemark’s classic movie series next features Pulp Fiction, the assembling of several violent and overlapping tales by writer-director Quentin Tarantino — and a cast featuring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, Harvey Keitel and Ving Rhames.
Cinemark Tinseltown in North Canton and Cinemark Valley View are participating, with shows scheduled for 2 p.m. today and 2 and 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Latino festival
Latino Heritage month is nearly upon us (celebrated Sept. 15-Oct. 15 every year) and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum wants you to celebrate a little early, specifically this afternoon.
There will be music by Micka Nova & Gozadera, the Latin Jazz Players, City Breaks Crew and Urbana Entertainment, and an art installation by La Gosecha Galeria. WNZN (89.1-FM) will emcee and broadcast live from the museum. The Latino Heritage Festival is free, but you’ll have to pay regular admission to tour the Rock Hall exhibits.
