Sizzling contest
There’s a $3,000 grand prize up for grabs in this year’s Great Sugardale Bac-On, sponsored by Sugardale Foods of Massillon.
It’s a recipe contest using Sugardale Bacon, so the company calls it a bac-on, not a bake-off.
Finalists will compete live at the Fabulous Food Show at the I-X Center in Cleveland on Nov. 9.

Craft festival
Remember how harried you were last December, running around in search of holiday gifts?

The annual craft show is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today on Medina’s Public Square. Almost 150 vendors are expected to take part, selling all manner of handmade goods.

Soak up the ‘Sun’
British actor Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes, Body of Lies) revisits an earlier role and production in Low Winter Sun, a series premiering at 10 tonight on AMC, following the return of Breaking Bad.
The original Low Winter Sun was a two-part English drama with Strong as Frank Agnew, an Edinburgh police detective who with a partner kills another officer. The new series again finds Strong as Agnew, this time a detective in Detroit who early on takes part in the murder of another cop.
AMC calls the 10-episode series “a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred.” Which, if nothing else, sure sounds like Detroit.
En Vogue, on stage
So you think New Jack Swing was the last time R&B was good? Well, Cleveland’s classic R&B station, WZAK, doesn’t disagree and at 8 p.m. Thursday, at the House of Blues Cleveland, WZAK will take you back to those halcyon days with a concert by ’90s girl group En Vogue.

The Fiber Cafe’s 10th annual Fiber Arts Show is open through Aug. 30 at the Peninsula Library and Historical Society, 6105 Riverview Road.
At the gallery, 1600 W. Mill St., the Best of Peninsula Show opens Aug. 24 and runs through Oct. 5.
