The new Peet’s Coffee & Tea was expected to open today at 1 N. Hawkins Ave., at the site of the former Caribou Coffee in Wallhaven.
The Peet’s brand and Caribou both are owned by the German conglomerate Joh. A. Benckiser Group. In April, Caribou announced that its 32 Ohio locations would either close or convert to Peet’s.
The first Peet’s in Ohio opened Thursday in Solon. The Akron store followed today, with eight additional Northeast Ohio stores planned, including one at 34 Park Lane, Hudson, which is expected to open Oct. 3.
In a news release, the company said the Ohio store openings mark the beginning of Peet’s biggest expansion in its 47-year history, with more than 90 new stores planned.
