Several Northeast Ohio hospitals recently received national recognition for their efforts to adopt technology.
Akron Children’s Hospital, Akron-based Summa Health System and the Cleveland Clinic recently were named to the annual “HealthCare’s Most Wired” list published in Health and Health Networks magazine.
The magazine uses a national survey to compare each hospital’s information technology efforts against others. The survey focuses on the use of computer systems to improve patient documentation, reduce medical errors, improve safety and give doctors, nurses and other health-care providers information needed to make patient care decisions.
Those with the highest level of IT integration are selected for the honor.
Hospitals here and across the country are making multimillion-dollar investments to adopt computerized medical records and systems that allow physicians to place orders via computers.
“This designation reflects a dedication to making sure we have the best technologies and resources to deliver high-quality and safe healthcare throughout the organization,’’ Akron Children’s Hospital Chief Information Officer Tom Ogg said in a news release. ‘‘... This is a big ‘win’ for all of the Akron Children’s team and, more importantly, the patients we serve.’’

Melanoma charity
This year’s annual Twins Days 5K & Fun Run is returning to its roots to help a local nonprofit group raise awareness about the deadliest form of skin cancer.

The race started 12 years ago in memory of George Wilkins, an avid runner and grandfather of twins who died of melanoma.

Race day registration starts at 7:15 a.m. at the pavilion near the entrance to the Center Valley Park trail, located on the eastern edge of Dodge Intermediate School, 10225 Ravenna Road. The race begins at 8:30 a.m.
A children’s fun run will follow at 9:30 a.m.
The entry fee for the 5K is $40 for a set of twins or $25 per individual racer. (Discounts are available through advance registration.)
